at first, it started as a test to help me learn lua. i said i'd work on it over a single weekend, just to learn the ropes of game dev;
that was not what happened.
how it started
the first version was literally just a hole with a ui counter that went up everytime you jumped in. that's it.
the idea was surprisingly simple, but i found it very intriguing and wanted to make more out of it. eventually, i had a whole story lined up for the game, and i honestly am really proud of it.
the scripting
roblox scripting is basically just normal lua with a bunch of quality-of-life updates, but the catch is you have to script both the client and the server.
it's not complicated in hindsight, but when you're learning it from scratch it feels like a lot.
what it became
JIHS ended up being a story about loneliness, love, and dedication, and i know that sounds pretentious for a game where you jump in a hole, but i think that's kind of the point. it doesn't matter to me if nobody ever discovers the real story of the sign. i had fun making it, that's all that matters to me.
i'm still sort of working on it, but recently i've taken a step back and started to work on other projects. overall, it was a fun learning exdperience, and i might even come back to it later.
